Law Squared helps clinical AI platform raise $5 million

Law Squared is proud to have assisted clinical AI platform Oscer, raise an impressive $5 million to further develop their educational and second opinion platform to eliminate missed medical diagnoses.

The funding round was led by Blackbird Ventures, a venture capital firm for product-obsessed Australians who dare to attack global markets from the beginning, with additional backing from January Capital, Inventures, Archangel Ventures and angel investors Brendan Hill and Jeff Bargmann.

Oscer, is currently an online platform that offers medical and allied health students the unique opportunity to practice their clinical reasoning skills with virtual patients powered by the latest natural language processing technology. The company’s next step is focused on clinicians, where Oscer hopes to become a diagnostic support tool for clinicians to get real time second opinions and help eliminate missed medical diagnoses.

Oscer is headed up by co-founders Thomas Kelly, Yu Liu and Waleed Mussa, who are focused on addressing the current problem of diagnostic errors which occur in up to one in seven clinical encounters.

“We are excited to have closed our raise and to have the support of Blackbird and our other investors as we continue to grow and develop the platform over the coming months and years,” said Waleed Mussa, CFO and co-founder at Oscer.

“We would also like to thank the entire Law Squared team with assisting us with not only all of the legal support during the raise, but also on a variety of different day to day legal matters that sometimes fall by the wayside when you’re so invested in a significant raise like ours. Their guidance and advice has been critical in navigating a whirlwind year for Oscer.”

Law Squared’s corporate lawyer, Shaun Restorick-Barton, who led the raise, was also thrilled about closing the funding round with the team at Oscer.

“It’s a tremendous achievement to raise this amount of funding so quickly in their lifecycle. It is a testament to the talent and drive of the founders and their team, as well as the foresight by Blackbird in seeing Oscer’s potential,” said Shaun.

“It has been a fantastic journey working with, and also building a relationship with the Oscer team, and I am very much looking forward to seeing the platform continue to grow and develop.”

The entire Law Squared team would like to congratulate the team at Oscer on the raise. We look forward to continuing to work with the Oscer team in the future.
