New commercial lawyers support global growth
Human Centred Law firm, Law Squared, has added three new commercial lawyers to its now global team, including making their second permanent appointment to the London Office, launched just over six months ago.
Jon Crass, Maria Walsh and Zoe Mortimer all join the Law Squared commercial practice, bolstering the firm’s value proposition to deliver fixed-cost, dual jurisdictional support to in-house legal teams, business leaders and multi-national clients in Australia and the UK.
Of the recent appointments, Law Squared Founder + Director, Demetrio Zema, said he believes the new team members will play an important role in the future of the firm: “Zoe, Maria and Jon each bring specialist expertise and business acumen to areas already in high demand with our clients, and set us up for continued growth.”
Jon Crass – Privacy + Commercial Lawyer
Specialising in Australian, UK and EU privacy / data protection law, Jon Crass was most recently at Sparke Helmore in the government practice group, and before that, working as legal counsel in the UK.
Experienced in privacy advisory and breach response services, including threshold assessments, impact assessments, notification management regulation engagement, Jon adds considerable fire power to the firm’s privacy and data specialism, already established within Law Squared.
Maria Walsh – Commercial Lawyer
Maria Walsh joins the firm’s Brisbane office, having spent time in-house and in private practice, after beginning her career in crisis communications.
After a career spent both in-house and most recently with Lawyers on Demand, Maria’s cross-industry experience will be a valuable addition to firm’s Law Squared as a Service (LSaaS) clients who receive on-demand access to all of Law Squared’s practice groups, at a fixed monthly cost.
Zoe Mortimer – Corporate + Commercial Lawyer (UK)
Joining commercial lawyer, Alexandra Geelan, in the London office, Zoe Mortimer has experience across both Corporate and Commercial UK law, and will work closely with Alexandra to build out the London team and client base.
Zoe started her career at EY London in the Financial Services Legal team, before moving in-house to advise on various corporate matters, including company structuring, share transfers and capital raising. Most recently, Zoe worked as Head of Culture and ESG for people consultancy, providing legal guidance on culture reviews and Equity Diversity and Inclusion related investigations to clients across all sectors.
Globally regarded as a leading NewLaw firm, and the only firm of its size to operate on an entirely fixed-fee (with no time recording as a measure of individual performance or billing) and flat structure basis, the new Law Squared lawyers enter an entirely different style of law firm: “Providing lawyers with an environment that is unparalleled to any other law firm globally remains our core mission, and I look forward to supporting Maria, Zoe and Jon on their career journey with Law Squared,” said Demetrio.
