Scaling and growing with the help of Law Squared as a Service

 

Each year, almost four million Australians experience mental health issues. What’s worse is that only half of this number receive help in the form of effective mental health treatment.

InnoWell is an innovative joint venture from the teams at PwC and the University of Sydney, that aims to use technology to help health professionals, service providers and organisations passionate about improving mental health to better connect with and monitor the individuals that use their services.

Since 2017, InnoWell has been providing health professionals and service providers services with an online clinical tool to better understand where the individual using their service is at and track their progress. The InnoWell platform provides crucial information they can use to triage patients, ensuring those with immediate needs are helped quickly and effectively. It also allows them to monitor the effectiveness of treatments and programs to aid their decision making for the future.

  • Following technical development and successful clinical trials, the team at InnoWell were ready to scale the reach and growth of the platform to help more individuals and clinicians achieve better mental health outcomes. To make the most of the new opportunities and partnerships available to InnoWell, the team found themselves needing help to get their legal and user agreements in place, including terms and conditions, customer and licence agreements and privacy documents.

    They also needed HR and recruitment support as they grew their team with new sales and marketing teams and more technical team members.

    Ultimately, what they found was that they had a number of ongoing legal needs and they were seeking a cost-effective option that would cover all of their bases while allowing them to focusing on building the company and the InnoWell platform.

  • InnoWell and Law Squared initially worked on a number of project-based commercial and employment matters, which were provided at a fixed-fee rate. However, as the relationship continued to evolve between InnoWell and Law Squared – and InnoWell’s needs shifted over time - the Law Squared team approached InnoWell with the LSaaS retainer model.

    The Law Squared as a Service offering provided InnoWell with a service that was cost-effective and allowed the team to be able to manage their legal spend without worrying about hourly or daily billing. While the LSaaS offering leverages all four of Law Squared’s practice areas, the InnoWell team refined the scope of the offering and elected to proceed with just the commercial and employment arms of the service, which better suited their needs.

  • Over the past two years, the in-house team at InnoWell have valued the timely and cost-effective nature of the LSaaS model. While the Law Squared team already had a pre-existing relationship with InnoWell prior to them joining as an LSaaS client, the relationship has continued to grow and Law Squared is now a valuable, go-to resource for the InnoWell team.

    Through the LSaaS model, Law Squared has assisted with putting in place InnoWell’s suite of commercial documents and supported negotiations with InnoWell’s stakeholders and partners. Law Squared has also provided ongoing support with staff recruitment, performance management, termination and redundancies.

    Importantly, having been involved with the InnoWell journey consistently for many years, the Law Squared team has a deep knowledge and understanding of the goals, challenges and background of InnoWell, which allows the Law Squared team to provide wholistic and proactive legal advice and services.
