The Next Three Years Start with Listening

Q4 started with a bang (and a few roars) as Law Squared and the wider Squared Group team gathered for our annual offsite at Melbourne Zoo. With team members flying in from London, Hong Kong and across Australia, it was a privilege to have our whole team in one place for a few days of celebration, connection, reflection, and alignment on our future.

While together, we launched Law Squared’s 2027–2029 strategy and asked ourselves a big question:  what will a law firm look like in three years’ time? With the profession, and the tools that support us all moving so unbelievably quickly,  no one can’t say for certain. However, I am confident that there has never been a more exciting time to be a lawyer or work with in-house teams.

Before we wrote a word of our strategy, we engaged an independent firm to engage with our clients, and ask some simple questions: what they value about working with us; where we fall short; and what they'll need from us over the next few years. Many of you took the time to provide answers, and we're very grateful. The feedback was invaluable. Seven in ten clients said they would definitely recommend us (a score of 9 or 10), but what pleased us most was why people scored us that way. Three themes came up: the certainty of our fixed fee model, being responsive when it matters, and advice that is practical, in plain language, and based on a real understanding of your business. Many of you described the relationship as a true partnership rather than a supplier arrangement, which tells us the reason Law Squared was founded 10 years ago, still holds true today.

Looking ahead, one theme stood out above all others: AI. One in four of you raised it unprompted. First, you want to know how AI will change legal services, and how we are preparing for that. Second, you told us you want practical help using it inside your own business: which tools are worth using, how in-house teams can make the most of them, and how our legal tech business, Cubed, could help.

Interestingly, for all the curiosity about technology, you were just as clear that human connection and judgement remain vital and it's the relationships you have with our lawyers that make the difference. That gives us our focus for 2027: build on what you value, provide practical help with AI, and keep our great people at the centre, guiding you (and us) through whatever comes next.
